Few traditional dresses are as recognizable as the flamenco dress. In fact, it is one of the main hallmarks of Andalusian culture throughout the world, in which it is it perfectly reflects that atmosphere so characteristic of traditional festivals. Festivities that, year after year, are gaining followers who anxiously await the arrival of the fair to enjoy the joy and merriment. And, although it is not exempt from fashions, the flamenco dress does not forget its origins, preserving the characteristics that make it so special.
Also known as the gypsy dress or the Sevillian dress, the flamenco dress seems to have originated in Seville, how could it be otherwise. From humble origins, today he is a true icon that has crossed borders. The gypsies and peasants were the first to use it, since it was the work dress. A robe whose embroidery, ruffles and colors managed to attract the eyes of the highborn young ladies of the time. However, it would not be until 1929, with the celebration of the universal exhibition , when it was established as the official costume to attend the fair and when it began to have universal projection, becoming a true reference of Spanish culture around the world.

Today, the wide range of possibilities is practically infinite. We can find flamenco dresses with different cuts, long and short, with or without sleeves, plain or patterned, etc. The most common fabric is usually poplin, since it is one of the cheapest, but we can also find flamenco dresses in tulle, linen, guipure or plumeti. As for the cut, the basket is usually the most common, narrow to the hip, where the ruffled skirt opens. Although the truth is that the styles are unlimited.
And it is not only used in the Seville or Malaga fair, but also in pilgrimages or on special occasions, such as fashion catwalks or beauty contests. Dresses that achieve an almost hypnotic movement when they are under the influence of the Spanish guitars that, when joined with the unmistakable voices of the cantaores, give rise to an almost magical atmosphere.
But the flamenco dress does not go alone, but is accompanied by a series of accessories such as the comb, the manila shawl, heels, espadrilles or wedges, brooches, circular earrings, bracelets and necklaces. In fact, accessories are one of the most important parts of the set, since a suit can change completely depending on how we combine it. The imagination is free and the combinations are endless.
The hairstyle is also important. In this sense, the braids, the buns, the pigtails and the natural headbands with braids are the preferred ones. The important thing is that you last for hours dancing without stopping. However, there are more and more women who choose to wear their hair loose or semi-collected with the flower next to it. Always accompanying the hairstyle with a makeup that is as natural as possible so as not to detract from the whole.
